Located a short walk from Temple Meads, getting to Flashpoint Bristol is easy. Designed with climbers of all abilities in mind; from new climbers to those looking for incredible training facilities. For those new to bouldering in Bristol, we run regular Taster sessions where one of our excellent instructors will get you going and even teach you a few key techniques. The routes are changed all the time which means there is always something fresh to try, even for the most dedicated of climbers.
Just a little update for you all on what has been happening with Redpoint and Flashpoint and what we plan to do over the next few months.
We know that this has affected everyone in our community. For us it has been an emotionally brutal month closing down what we have all fought to build for nearly a decade. Our main focus was the well-being of our team - it felt like a long wait to get clarity from the government as to how best to support them, but actually so far this is a good package for the vast majority.
We have done our best to get every piece of support for them as possible. So for now every one of us is on "furlough" and in most cases will receive a minimum of 80% of our average wage. Although this is good for the majority some of our team will find it hard, and a few new starters and freelancers have fallen through the cracks. We are trying to support them with sign posting to further government help and / or getting into one of the jobs vacancies that this disaster has created.
For the next few months we will have to tighten our budgets as much as possible. Even with the centres totally closed we still have to budget for around 15K or more in standing charges, insurance and other commitments. Plus we have to plan for our re-opening, which is another massive unknown. So we must plan for the worst case scenario which will mean we have to make our savings last for the whole summer at least and have enough left over to pay the team once we re-open possibly under restricted numbers.
We have had many of you pledge to maintain some, or all, of your membership for now. We can't tell you how much this helps! Not just in financial terms but also in the message it sends to our team. It says that we are more than just a gym to you, it says we are a family and that the transaction is more than just money for holds on the wall. We know that many of you simply could not support us in that way, and that is absolutely fine, clearly this is an extremely difficult time for us all. There are non-financial (and less committing) ways to support us if you would like, go to our Corona Support pages on either Flashpoint Bristol, Flashpoint Swindon or Redpoint Bristol's pages. Even an email or a Facebook comment telling us you're missing us and looking forward to the reopening is hugely appreciated and great for morale.
So what can we do for you while we are closed? We are looking into the rules, and our finances, and think we will be able to un-furlough a few of the team every few weeks in order to maintain contact with our community. We want to engage with the Rock Monkey kids and parents with fun "homework" to keep them keen and active.
We also hope to provide something similar for our adult customers. We know this is a lonely time for all of us and some online social events to keep us together would be wonderful. It would be great to see you all again.
On top of that we plan to keep our email inbox checked and once a month put out a message to make sure all those who are supporting us still wish to do so.
We will be back in touch soon. Until then stay home, stay sane, send some love to our key workers and do some press ups : ) ...
